The Seven Chakras
It is important to keep the seven chakras open and balanced to allow energy to freely flow through the body and mind. If one or more of the chakra energy centers become blocked or out of balance, it can cause mental and physical problems. Here's a summary of the seven chakras and some of the ailments that can occur when chakras become blocked.
- The first chakra is the Root Chakra which lies between the rectum and the genital area. It is associated with the color red which represents life, warmth, and vitality. A disturbance in the root chakra leads to addiction, uncontrolled or diminished sexuality, obesity, digestive disorders, constipation, and stress about one's financial security. If energy flows smoothly through this chakra, one will feel a deep connection to nature.
- The second chakra is the Sacral Chakra which lies above the pubic bone. It is associated with the color orange which the color of nourishment and circulation. A disturbance in the second chakra causes problems related to sexual abilities, kidneys, the urinary tract, pain in the hip, pelvic region, and lower back. Life may seem to lose its meaning. When the balance of energy is restored, one becomes more open and is able to enjoy life, they will feel empowered to take creative risks and embrace their sexuality.
- The third chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, lies above the navel. The third chakra is associated with the color yellow which stands for intelligence. Blockages will create digestive problems, pancreas and gallbladder issues, chronic fatigue, discontent, restlessness, discouragement, and a fear of rejection. A balanced Solar Plexus Chakra will bring about deep feelings of inner peace, self-respect, and self-compassion.
- The fourth chakra is the Heart Chakra which lies in the middle of the chest. It is associated with the color green which offers calming vibrations that aid in healing the nervous system. A blockage in the Heart Chakra can lead to asthma, arm and wrist pain, upper back and shoulder problems, excessive jealousy, bitterness, and a fear of being alone. Those with an opened Heart Chakra radiate joy and friendliness. They will be considerate of others, have a highly developed sense of empathy, and will forgive easily.
- The fifth chakra is the Throat Chakra which lies at the base of the throat. The Throat Chakra is associated with the color blue which is cooling, calming, healing, and represents innocence. Blockages can create Thyroid issues, ear infections, sore throats, neck and shoulder pain, issues expressing yourself, and a fear of being out of control. When energy flows freely through the Throat Chakra one will feel articulate, honest, be open to new experiences, able to express themselves, and stand up for their beliefs.
- The sixth chakra is the Forehead Chakra, or the third eye, which lies above the top of the nose. It is linked to the eyes, nose, face and senses, including the sixth sense of perception, insight, and intuition. It is associated with the color indigo which is the color of mysteries and mysticism, which banishes sickness and evil from one’s awareness and allows space for mental freedom. A blockage in the Forehead Chakra is linked to headaches, eye strain, blurred vision, sinus issues, moodiness, and stubbornness. When energy flows through the Forehead Chakra one feel focused, determined, and their understanding becomes broad and deep allowing them to rely upon their own intuitive sense.
- The seventh chakra is the Crown Chakra which is located at the top of the head. The opening of this chakra leads to enlightenment. It is associated with three colors: violet which has the highest vibratory frequency, white stands for pure intelligence, and gold for the life force. Blockages in this chakra lead to rigid thoughts and a fear of alienation. When energy is allowed to flow freely through the Crown Chakra one can experience an unshakeable trust in their inner guidance and achieve a higher level of consciousness.
